Destination Obsession

I have got to be honest.  This is a tough one for me.  I have read enough about the law of attraction to know I should focus on the outcome and not the hows.  And I understand that it should be a sense of it already happened.  But I’ve also discovered that there is a fine line between the feeling of it being done and on the way.

Let me explain where I’m coming from.  I was driving the other day, thinking about my destination when a sudden memory came into my head.  I remembered traveling across the country from Ohio to California, where I was newly assigned.  It was a 3 day journey and I spent the time zipping on the highways through various states, stopping after about 12 hours to sleep, get up and do it again.  The part that stuck in my head was that while traveling, I would occasionally look at the landscapes and wonder what it was like to live there for a second, then I would return to my driving intention to get where I’m going.

That memory was a sign meant for me to slow down and pay attention to what’s going on around me now.  All the cliché’s and adages about enjoying the journey are true.  Life is meant to be savored each and every moment of each and every day.  When something isn’t going exactly as planned, that’s when you know it’s temporary and you’re on your way.  When it’s going as planned, that’s when you take note of how good it is and savor it, knowing your still on your way.

For me, it’s time to let go of that destination obsession and enjoy what is just a little bit more.
